Today marks 142 years of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and 62 years of the Delta Eta Chapter at the University of Delaware. On Saturday night, to mark the occasion, the Delaware Area Alumni Association as well as the University of Delaware undergraduate brothers celebrated together at the Delaware Saengerbund and then later back at Pike Way. Also in attendance was our Alumni Adviser Bob Tkachick and Erv Frances, Bob’s big brother.
The summit not only further immersed the brothers in the international scope of the fraternity, but meetings were designed to boost their leadership skills and their skills at chapter management. Going forward, we hope that these men take an active role in managing the chapter and helping Delta Eta achieve its potential.
Matt Michael, Chris Dickson, JD Husband, Nate States, and Matt Trezinski were attending their first leadership summits. Matt Slutsky attended the summit in Hartford last year as a pledge, and Mike Froio attended his first summit this weekend as a pledge.

Homecoming, Halloween, and a Yankees-Phillies World Series game fell on the same day, to the excitement of all the brother at Delaware. Although the Blue Hens could not pull off a win against James Madison, the day was still very enjoyable. Alumni of all ages joined us throughout the day, despite the rain.

This morning marked the eighth consecutive year that Pike was out in numbers at the Scott Mackler 5k Run to benefit ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) research! The run was staged at Temple Beth-El in Newark and went through local neighborhoods. Even though it is late October the weather was ideal for a run. In addition to all of the brothers from Delaware, the University of Pennsylvania chapter came down for the event as well.
Our Vice President, Nate States, also an employee of Newark Deli & Bagel, donated bagels and cream cheese on behalf of NDB for the run for the second year in a row.
To the surprise of many, this year the fastest Delta Eta runner was actually a pledge, Mike Froio. Congratulations! It was quite an upset considering that our winner from last year, Travis Kroecker had been training for the run. Check out the photos page to take a look at some more pictures from the event. Many thanks to the Mackler family, Temple Beth-El, and the Penn brothers who made the trip for making the run a great success for the tenth time in a row!
To find out more about our philanthropy efforts check out our Philanthropy page.

The men are:

Jonathan Bobinski
Michael Froio
Josh Sellers
Josh Wohl
Keith Fullum
Kane Wang
Nate McDonald
Neil Epstein
Maurice Alston
Vinnie Lex

Congratulation to these ten men who make up the Omicron Pledge Class! Over the fall semester they will be educated in the history and ways of Pi Kappa Alpha both internationally and at Delaware. In addition, we hope that the pledge process will make them lifelong friends with each other, active brothers, alumni, and all Pikes.
